“Israel’s” Gift to the World: The Poisoning of the Earth’s Crucible

Genocide, Ecocide and the Disruption of the Earth's Ecosystems

The world is broken. “Israel” has compromised it on every level and sullied it beyond repair. Institutions of accountability have been overturned and legal frameworks dissolved.

In amongst “Israel’s” multiple and prolific violations of all human values, its profligate disregard for every social contract and its rendering meaningless every system that provides redress to the disenfranchised and victims of human rights violations, there is a further crime: “Israel” has singlehandedly devastated the environment around it.

It has polluted the atmosphere and contributed the equivalent of running 84 gas power plants for a year, through its bombardment of Gaza (and attacks on Iran, Lebanon and Yemen).

The most “civilized” country in the Middle East, the only democracy – has wreaked havoc with our shared environment, it has damaged the fragile balance of the ecosystem, it has used the most advanced technology to inflict hell on innocents and children; it has used the pinnacle of technological knowledge to exact brutality and pain.

This is “Israel’s” gift to the world.

Aggressive Colonialist Expansion

“Israel” has always claimed special status way before October 7^th. As one of the smallest “countries” in the world with few of its own natural resources, “Israel” has relied heavily on plundering the resources of the Palestinians as it expands ever outwards encroaching aggressively on surrounding territory; this has recently become an all-out land grab of devastating viciousness, a genocidal campaign dressed up in extremist rhetoric that is unprecedented.

It would appear that dwindling resources together with an expanding population – not just in the world, but in “Israel” one of the world’s most densely populated areas whose population grows by 2% per annum – has resulted in the aggressive greed of “Israel” getting out of hand as it escalates its looting and devastation of others’ lands in a desperate ploy to sustain its parasitical colonial expansion.

Genocide Incorporates Ecocide

Environmental groups, like other “rights” groups, are strangely mute when it is the monstrous “Israel” wreaking the havoc. “Lesser” players, lacking similar impunity are held to account over their practices, urged to use electric cars, limit industrial emissions, walk or cycle to work rather than drive – we must all play our part to create a fairer, sustainable world – unless we are “Israel”.

Long before October 7^th “Israel” had already diverted most of the regional water sources to its own population, leaving the Palestinians with a desperate paucity of running water; 100% control of the Jordan River basin with Palestinians unallowed to access any of this water, and many other measures that I have detailed in an article on “Israel’s” water apartheid.

But in recent months it has attempted to complete its aggressive conquest of destroying Gaza and making it uninhabitable while decimating its population by manifold means, directly and indirectly. In Gaza the air is laden with pollution and the scant water supplies swim with microbes that can be absorbed through the skin, airways, gastro-intestinal system.

Olive groves have been burned, soil and groundwater is replete with toxins and sewage; waste and the remains of dead bodies are piled up everywhere. The air carries not just disease but smoke and particulate matter. Families have been forced to burn household items for fuel in the winter and by Summer, the high temperatures lead to rapid decomposition and decay that releases new microbes.

A Devil’s Arsenal of Dirty Weaponry and a World of Sick Paranoia

Recoil Mortar Systems, XM329 shells designed to detonate and fragment inside the body causing maximum injuries, spike missile systems, Hellfire rockets, heavy duty artillery shells, 2000lb bombs (the largest known bombs to exist), “dumb” (unguided) bombs, white phosphorus and AI guided “loitering” drones.

A devil’s arsenal of evil, a stockpile of staggering cruelty and viciousness; this is for a civilian population of which around 50% are children. “Israel” maintains its “right” to “defend” itself; its supporters shift accountability to those very civilians, including children, that they are happy to see killed and maimed.

The truth is that “Israel” tests its weapons on the Palestinian civilian population, and its orchestration of October 7^th – the Apache helicopters that targeted its own population in order to minimize the numbers taken hostage – as well as all the other ways in which it set up the means necessary to create its justification for the Gaza genocide, benefited nobody more than itself, with its population ever the sacrificial lamb for a barbaric leader with unhinged visions of a “greater Israel”, a “war on seven fronts” waged against constructed enemies that it can then defeat.

We might say that the surrounding countries are a proxy for “Israel” and that Iran is “Israel’s” greatest proxy, providing it with an excuse to lash out. The truth is that wherever “Israel” lays its hat is its killing field, wherever it chooses to “settle” will be its enemies.

Like a paranoid psychotic, “Israel” makes enemies and then sees them in the shadows, it projects its inner hate onto its surroundings and then claims everybody wants to wage war on it. It does always, what it knows best while accusing those around it of the same: kill, kill, kill.

Silent Killers Lurking in a Landscape of Destruction

As well as directly killing Palestinians, burying them beneath rubble, destroying their healthcare systems, decimating their infrastructure to reduce everything to a landscape of destruction – “Israel” has poisoned the environment in multitude ways.

Amidst the manifold miseries and injustices “Israel” has heaped on the civilian population of Gaza, lurk a number of silent killers, that wreak corrosive effects that can resurface years later.

Of course, the effects of the surrounding pollution are immeasurable, those things we are exposed to that we are not even aware of – whilst wealthy diaspora Jewish supremacist Zionists whinge about “generational trauma” from the holocaust – they unleash the cruellest of legacies onto the Palestinians.

One of these is asbestos, the mineral that releases toxic fibres into the air, and is found in the roofing of older buildings such as the refugee shelters housing displaced Palestinians from previous rounds of ethnic cleansing.

It was estimated by UNEP in 2024 that 2.3 million tonnes of Gaza’s rubble could be contaminated with asbestos. Every time there is some kind of impact or strike, the fibres are breathed in, penetrating the lung lining to cause deep scarring and cancer within the pleural cavity called mesothelioma. This can happen decades after exposure.

Asbestos, an issue that has caused massive controversy in the developed world due to some older buildings being built from materials that release these toxic fibres, do not even make it onto the radar of concern amongst a population who are being starved en masse and bombarded by high level munitions every day.

Additionally silicosis which can be caused by breathing in silica dust that eventually triggers an immune response leading to fibrosis, scarring of the lungs. Other toxic particles released by all of the bombardment of civilian infrastructure, can cause a wide range of respiratory illnesses from lung cancer to emphysema.

Not content with inflicting every type of damage and destruction on the Palestinians, “Israel” insists on flying drones overhead 24 hours a day. The population of Gaza – from old to young, adults to babies, are tortured all day and night by the sound of drones, sinister, omnipresent, hovering.

Watching, waiting and emitting the loud metallic buzz that ensures even toddlers playing outside are so sensitized and their tiny nervous systems so frayed and depleted that they never feel safe. This is another type of silent killer, the internalized stress of the noises of destruction that wend their way into the system and settle there as a nodule of psychological discomfort, or a pervasive feeling of anxiety; ongoing chronic depression or panic attacks.

“Israel” has succeeded in its mission of creating a dystopian world that the Palestinians must suffer every day. Palestine is the pivot upon which multiple issues turn, the nexus of all threads of meaning, accountability, justice. The campaign to silence Gaza, to brutalize its people into submission, is the crux of everything important today. This is why the battle for Gaza is so central, and is critical to all of us. We either allow the world to descend into darkness – or we fight now, to hold “Israel” accountable.
